Kingsport City Schools Launches All-In-One Communications Platform: ParentSquare

KINGSPORT, Tenn. - Kingsport City Schools (KCS) has launched ParentSquare, a new district-wide communications platform designed to streamline and strengthen communication between the district, schools, classrooms, athletics, activities, and families. Families will begin using ParentSquare at the start of the 2026-27 school year.

This transition brings multiple communication tools and mobile apps into one unified platform, improving consistency across the district, strengthening secure two-way communication between staff and families, and providing automatic translation into families' preferred languages. ParentSquare will also support attendance messaging and further strengthen family engagement.

With ParentSquare, district and school staff will be able to:
  • Post announcements and send messages to families
  • Communicate using built-in translation tools
  • Share calendar events and collect RSVPs
  • Distribute forms, documents, and permission slips electronically
  • Schedule conferences and appointments
  • Coordinate volunteer opportunities and sign-ups
  • Monitor message delivery and engagement
"Throughout this process, we intentionally listened to the feedback of our families and staff, and one message was clear: communication needed to be simple, more consistent, and easier to access," said Marybeth Kench, KCS Communications Coordinator. "ParentSquare brings our district, school, classroom, athletics, and activity communication together in one secure platform, providing secure two-way messaging, built-in translation, and flexible communication options that make it easier for families to stay informed and engaged. By replacing multiple apps with one unified platform, we're excited to be creating a more connected, accessible, and streamlined experience for our school communities."

ParentSquare can be used online or through the mobile app.

Families will receive district and school communications through ParentSquare via email, text, voice, and mobile app notifications - with communication preferences and notification settings. Families who choose not to use ParentSquare, will continue to receive district and school emergency communications via email, text, voice.

Families who activate their mobile app account will also be able to:
  • Respond directly to messages
  • Complete forms and permission slips electronically
  • Access school updates and announcements in one location
  • Manage communication preferences and notification settings
Students in grades 6-12 may download ParentSquare's companion app, StudentSquare. Through StudentSquare, students in grades 6-12 can receive secure, direct communication from schools, teachers, coaches, or activity sponsors.

Training and support materials can be found on the district website, k12k.com - Families - ParentSquare App or k12k.com - Students - StudentSquare App.
